According to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (Dirpa), « the latter are desperately seeking to find and secure spaces favourable to the pursuit of their criminal activities, mainly centred on the cultivation and trafficking of Indian hemp ». The communication service, which welcomes the missions carried out, maintains that “the actions in progress, started since January 14, 2023, have enabled the Armies to achieve all the objectives set and to produce the desired effects on the hostile forces in wandering in the cross-border area with The Gambia”.
Taking stock, the Dirpa informs that « the Armies lost in combat a soldier, private 2nd class Waly Faye of the Commando Battalion, and recorded seven wounded, including six who were lightly taken care of and already released from the Ziguinchor military hospital. And a wounded evacuated by military air and currently being treated at the Principal Hospital in Dakar.” The Army authorities, through the communication service, ensure that they « will all benefit from military honours commensurate with their sacrifices in the service of the nation and the social support measures provided by the command and the State authorities « .
