Two Soldiers Missing Since Saturday: Mysterious Case, Various Hypothesis

0

The disappearance of Chief Warrant Officer of the Gendarmerie, Didier Badji, and Sergeant Fulbert Sambou, until now in office respectively at the General Inspectorate of State and the Directorate of Military Intelligence, is taken seriously by the judicial and military authorities, who have launched the search for them. Even though they are considered « missing », they were lost of sight following the arrest of another gendarme as part of the investigation related to the arrest of journalist Pape Alé Niang. The hypothesis of a voluntary disappearance of these agents is gaining credibility.

Where are Chief Warrant Officer of the Gendarmerie, Didier Badji and Sergeant Fulbert Sambou? This question is being asked at the highest level of the State, which is seeking to locate these two agents in office respectively at the General State Inspectorate and the Directorate of Military Intelligence. The authorities have decided to eke out big means to find them. According to a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office of the High Court of Dakar, « The investigation units as well as the firefighters and the Navy have been engaged in the search to find the said people who are for the moment only missing ».

It should be noted that the disappearance of the two officers was reported on the evening of Saturday, November 19, 2022. And the search was immediately launched by all the competent units of the country to trace them. « The geolocation of the devices of the missing made it possible to locate them consecutively at the level of the rocky cliffs of Cap Manuel where a stretched fishing net, remains of shrimp bait as well as shoes belonging to the aforementioned were also found, » explained the public prosecutor in a statement.

A Judicial Investigation Ongoing

In the meantime, the search continues. According to the head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Provost Brigade immediately went to the scene to make the usual findings in order to elucidate the precise circumstances of these disappearances. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the High Court of Dakar announced the opening of a judicial investigation entrusted to the Provost Brigade of the National Gendarmerie. Today, the disappearance of these agents raises many questions: were they swallowed by the waves? In this area, the sea is not rough to take Didier Badji and Fulbert Sambou, who are trained professionals. For some, this thesis does not hold water. Have they been kidnapped? And why? This is also unlikely in the eyes of some.

Gendarme Arrested in the PAN Case

But there is a third hypothesis: Chief Warrant Officer Didier Badji and Sergeant Fulbert Sambou, who served in the 5th Infantry Battalion, would have voluntarily organised their disappearance to get off the radar of Justice after the arrest of the journalist, Pape Alé Niang, arrested on Sunday, November 6 and placed under arrest for dissemination of military information not authorised by the hierarchy, concealment of administrative and military documents and dissemination of false news likely to discredit public institutions. The « leak » of these agents, who also maintain a more than professional relationship, was noted a few hours after the arrest of another gendarme following investigations « thoroughly in this case » to find the sources of the director of publication of the Dakar Matin news site whose phone « talked and talked way too much ». At the highest level of the hierarchy of the constabulary, a « hunt » for possible elements that « compromise » public security, under the leadership of the High Commander of the National Gendarmerie, is launched.
